Testimonials

“Mr. Ager has been a community partner with Pathways since 2004, providing weekly mentoring to our at risk boys. Ager helps them transition from boyhood to young adulthood. Ager’s stern yet compassionate approach breaks silence barriers allowing students to openly share their concerns. As many of our young men lack father figures mentoring creates a forum of free expression of issues affecting our young men in their home and community.

Mr. Ager stipulates one mentoring session a week and often goes above and beyond contract requirements, checking in on his mentees 2-3 times a week. He extends the relationship beyond the school walls, fostering relationships with his mentees families. Ager is able to monitor behaviors in and out of school yielding a holistic view of his students.

Upon completion of the Joseph’s Dreams Mentoring we see the transformation in our young men. There is a stronger sense of self dignity and respect for others. There is also a sense of academic urgency which is not apparent at the genesis of this program. We have seen our students graduate and go off to college become positive Ambassadors of Joseph’s Dreams. We are confident that the investment made in these young men will reap many rewards not only at Pathways but their respected communities and the world at large.”

“Mr. Ager was very instrumental in coordinating a group of twelve career professionals to present to classes from grades 6-12 during our college and career week. Mr. Ager and I have also worked together with reviewing the progress reports of the students he works with very closely. In addition we are able to keep track of his student’s schedules and completion of graduation requirements by monitoring their transcripts and class schedule.

Mr. Ager has been a great support to the school providing mentorship and small group sessions that allows the young male students to openly express themselves in a non-confrontational and self-esteem building way.”

“On behalf of the staff and students of the Roy Wilkins School P.S. 136Q we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your participation in our fathers Third Thursday Initiative Program. Because of your involvement many of the fathers, students and other participants in this forum have acquired valuable information about the things that are happening in our community.

We recognize that through your hard work passion and commitment you were able to share critical and potentially lifesaving information with our parents and students. Taking time out your busy schedule and your growing commitment to education working with at risk youth and making the environment more livable is truly appreciated by our staff, parents, students and other members of the community.”

“This program has helped me improve on my grades. Mr. Ager has given me a lot of support to be a better student than I already am. Also we have gone on a couple of trips. One of them was to the Black and Latino Caucus in Albany. What a great experience!”

 -          Malachi, Student

“In Mr. Ager’s group he helped me a lot at the beginning of the school year, I felt like I didn’t have to do anything until January but when January came I was so far behind I kept getting suspended. When I joined his group sessions he broke me out of that condition, and now I am passing most of my classes.”

 -          Tarae, Student

“The program helped me to be a little more honest and a better person. Mr. Ager and I are good friends. He gives me good advice and I can talk to him about anything. He is a good role model.”
